Background information on XLR8

Having spent over 25 years riding the dieting roller coaster I had a good understanding of why diets didn’t work, having tried probably every diet on the market and failed.  Thinking it was me and not actually the diet. 

When I saw that behind photo of me in 2015 at the Wangaratta Mother’s Day Classic I knew I could not diet again as I had been dieting for over 25 years and was still fat.  I would lose the weight and then over time put it all back on plus more.  I would exercise extensively and as soon as I stopped the weight would return.  Everything I had ever done was put under a microscope and dissected.  A wealth of knowledge I had gained having dieted for so long.

When you go on a calorie restricted diet your body goes into what is known as starvation mode, your metabolism slows down so much so that your body enters a state where weight loss can stop completely. Losing weight should be all about reduce the number of calories in and burn more calories which should = weight lost. Our bodies don’t see it that way, when you reduce calories it thinks it’s the beginning of starvation (as our bodies have been conditioned for thousands of years to act this way) and will do everything it can to reserve its fat cells.  It can trick you into being hungry and craving food so you consume more. 

So, with the help of my sister in law who runs an international Natural Health Care Company, with over 15 years in the health industry we began researching diets and products.  We both knew that I needed to target the three areas of weight loss BURN fat, BLOCK cravings which were completely out of control and I had to BUILD muscle that didn’t require extensive workout sessions because quite frankly when you were as overweight as I was exercising was the last thing I could do and maintain it.  (as I had proved this time and time again in the past)

Kelp, a seaweed that has been used for many centuries in Asia and Europe, is a very good source of iodine and iron. A 2010 study by the University of Newcastle demonstrated that Kelp was also good at preventing fat absorption.

Grapefruits have been shown to lower cholesterol and to have strong antimicrobial properties. This combination of supplements is a powerful boost for your weight-loss efforts.

Carbohydrates are sugars that break down inside the body to create glucose.

Glucose is moved around the body in the blood and is the primary source of energy for the brain, muscles, and other essential cells. 

The healthy body attempts to regulate glucose levels by using a series of hormones – insulin and glucagon, which are produced by the pancreas gland. 

Insulin lowers blood sugar levels by moving the glucose to the various parts of the body and aiding its absorption, excess glucose can be stored in the liver or in fat around the body. 

Glucagon increases blood sugar levels by releasing glucose stored in the liver back into the bloodstream.  Blood sugar levels are usually kept in check if the pancreas and liver are healthy and functioning normally.


Why go low carb?

We have been told that eating fat will make you fat. It is when you eat fat AND too many carbohydrates that can make you fat. When you eat carbohydrates, they are converted into glucose by your body. The pancreas then secretes insulin (or it may need to be injected) to reduce the blood glucose levels. Insulin is our fat STORING hormone and fat burning is switched off. If we restrict the amount of carbohydrates in our diet, we will require less insulin, and therefore store less fat and able to burn fat.  This is when our body switches from glucose burning to fat burning.
